Information for Athletes for 2010-2011 School Year
Following is important information for student-athletes and parents to have in order to prepare for and be eligible to participate in Visitation athletics next school year. Please read through the information carefully and contact Mike Brill, school athletic director, with questions. He may be reached via email or by phone at 651-683-1717.
I. NEW FOR 2010-11 SCHOOL YEAR:
Given the growing awareness surrounding the potential long-term effects of sports-related concussions, the athletic department is requiring all student-athletes who wish to participate in soccer, hockey, or lacrosse to undergo baseline neuro-cognitive testing before being allowed to participate in those sports at Visitation. Student-athletes participating in other sports at Visitation are strongly encouraged to undergo the baseline testing as well. This testing, along with post-injury testing, will help to objectively evaluate a concussed athlete’s post-injury condition and track recovery for a safe return to play, thus preventing the cumulative effects of concussion.
The athletic department is working with the Health East Concussion Clinic to make the testing available to all student-athletes needing it. Specific information on when, where, and how to take the test will be made available to all Visitation families at the end of the current school year.
