Salesian Studies
The Salesian Studies program exists to help nourish, deepen and extend the charism of our founders, Saint Jane de Chantal and Saint Francis de Sales, within our school community and beyond.  What is Salesian spirituality?  This charism is characterized by the Gospel-based” little virtues” of gentleness, patience, humility, liberty of spirit to name a few. It is named “Salesian” in reference to Saint Francis de Sales.

"Great opportunities to please God come along rarely,
but turning life's ordinary deeds into moments of great praise to God can happen frequently. "

-St. Francis de Sales

School Salesian Virtue for 2010-2111 School Year:

Acceptance

Each year, our students and educators are asked to focus on a particular Salesian virtue. This year's virtue of Acceptance is illuminated with a companion quote from Saint Jane de Chantal:

"Do not look at the faults of others,
but at their virtues and what is good in them."

This year we are privileged to continue to celebrate, along with our dear Sisters, the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Visitation order. We are taking the Sister’s motto, “Live † Jesus”, for our focus this year. We hope to find what St. Francis de Sales meant when he penned the closing of his book, Introduction to the Devout Life, with these words, “Live † Jesus”. At first reading we hear a command to follow Jesus, to indeed “Live Jesus.” Yet, this command softens into a gentle invitation for each of us to be more open to God’s grace, to letting Jesus live in each of our hearts. Our prayer is indeed that you might join us this year in discovering the place where Jesus lives in your own heart.

Rosary
Each Wednesday, school children pray a decade of the Rosary in the chapel at 7:50 a.m.
On the last Wednesday of the month, parents join the students and stay to finish the remaining mysteries.  Afterwards, parents are invited to come to the McGuire conference room in the school for fellowship and coffee.
Please join us as your time allows.

Eucharistic Adoration
On the first Friday of each month, you are invited to spend some time in quiet prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.  Eucharistic Adoration takes place in the sisters' chapel from 8:00-2:15 p.m.
You are also invited to consider being a regular adorer.
Contact Anne Williams at 615-683-1734 to get more information or to sign up for a regular prayer time.

Established Resources

  • A Salesian resource library is underway. Currently, it contains some of the more known works written by or about St. Francis de Sales, St. Jane de Chantal and St. Margaret Mary as well as the broader Salesian family.
  • An office and space to share Salesian resources is established between the Admissions and Development Offices, just right of the Portress near the Sisters’ Chapel
  • Many groups and individuals are already enriching our community by focusing on the teachings of St. Francis de Sales and the shared vision of holiness with St. Jane de Chantal. We all profit by sharing the wealth of our wisdom and experience.
